Dimples, Jean & Smores at Whitney Portal Hostel, Lone Pine, CA. Still the Camp Director.
Jean pointing at Mt Whitney from her days off in Lone pine, CA. She got severe altitude sickness and had to take some "zero" days. She missed climbing Whitney, the highest point in the lower 48 states at 14,400. But she says, "it's the smiles, not the miles".
Picking up food packages /resupply in Independence, CA. These small town post offices provide a vital part in the PCT "thru hikers" journey. They couldn't do it without these friendly USPS workers.
Random transportation "museum".
Hiking to Robinson Lake. 9200' to 11,500'. Snow in June, Sierra Nevada's.
Dipping our sore feet into the Crystal clear, icy water of Robinson Lake.
The Sierra Nevada's are chock full of pristine lakes from the melting snow, year round. But you can access them by walking. Perfect.
This is what Jean does on her "days off"....more hiking. But without the 45# pack, it's a vacation for her.
Thumbs up & FedX at the Mammoth Lakes Hostel. They represent the over 50 contingency on the trail.
